Pheedo launches RSS/ATOM ad server. Kanoodle to provide ads. Signs up top tier publishers.
November 7, 2004
We've been testing our ad management tool for RSS/ATOM content feeds for a number of months. Basically, what it will do is allow bloggers, micro-publishers and large media outlets to seamlessly insert paid advertisements into their content feeds, and track both ad and feed activity. Kanoodle, will provide the ads. Publishers will also have the ability to sell ads directly. We are excited to be launching with top tier publishers including Lockergnome, paidContent, and Topix.
Here are a few of the features:
- Sophisticated targeting and optimization capabilities. Unlike sending an email newsletter, consumers and aggregators are in control of requesting your feed. From every 15 minutes to once a day, consumers and aggregators pull your content feeds differently. We constantly monitor the feed to measure the noise-to-value ratio on the fly and inserts ads when appropriate so not to over-burden the consumer.
- Ad serving intelligence specifically built for RSS/Atom feeds. The system understands how each aggregator thinks and serves the appropriate ad based on the unique characteristics of the news reader.
- Robust reporting. You'll receive all the same information you expect from online advertising plus data unique to content feeds. This includes audience size (circulation), popularity of content, and aggregators requesting content.
- Hosted Solution. Manage, serve and report on ads without installing or managing software or requiring extensive IT resources. This reduces infrastructure costs while increasing revenues. Existing customers continue to use the same feed URL. If you prefer an API is also available.
If you're interested in monetizing your content feeds, you can start by going here.

Kanoodle won't let my site join because I'm UK-based even though my site's audience is primarily American :-( I guess I don't need to ask if I'll be able to join this scheme? Good luck with it though. I just hope someone allows me in sometime.
