RSS in Tokyo
July 29, 2005
Today, Tokyo had the first look at the Pheedo solution. Our partners in Japan, AD2, introduced the local press and publisher community to Pheedo's RSS Advertising/Analytics platform. The room was packed with professionals eager to learn about RSS and RSS advertising. In attendance, was Six Apart, About, AOL, Autobytel, Become, and Fujitsu to name a few. I had the opporutnity to meet Japan's version of Robert Scoble, uber blogger Hiro Ogawa. Through an interpreter, I had the honor of presenting US RSS market data.
What was exciting to see was the growth of RSS in the Japanese market. The President of Root Communications, Mr. Koji Tsukada, shared RSS subscriber growth (chart below) of one of their sites. He pointed out RSS is growing in Japan with no promotion. The Japanese RSS adoption rate is higher compared to the US market. Overall penetration is lower but according to Tsukada, "the environment is ready."
A large portal that provides blogs to its users shared that the most popular blog categories included Diary, Soccer, Work, & Diet. Business blogging came in as the 13th most popular category.
Pheedo Japan is currently in beta.
