The Fate of Print Media
January 17, 2006
There has been some interesting discussion recently about the fate of print media, and both sides do have a very compelling argument. Jeff Jarvis dukes it out in Fast Company with John Griffin of National Geographic (registration required) about whether print media is "doomed" and Raj Kumar Dash asks in his blog: "Is Print Media in Danger?"
Fragmented digital media seems to be the obvious culprit here and technology is facilitating where and when this media can be consumed. David Carr of the New York Times blames his iPod, and Steve Rubel points to new RSS enabled technology that could be the "future of newspapers." While no one can say for sure that newspapers and print media will die, one inarguable point is that they are definitely bleeding. Is there a way to stop the bleeding? This is an issue we're going to continue to watch closely in this blog, as RSS is a big part of where publishing is going.
