Blogging Is Dead - Bloggers Killed It.
November 4, 2004
No, I don't actually believe blogging is dead (some people think it never lived). I thought I too would jump on the 'is dead-wagon'. In the last year, blogs and RSS have been accused of killing:
1. Email - RSS was the culprit.
2. Branding - Blogs were convicted.
3. Public Relations - Blogs, the repeat offender.
4. Mass Marketing - Ok, I said that, but isn't true (smile)?
Update
5. Yellow Pages - local online search did it in.
Update 2
Looks like Roland Tanglao is also tracking the 'is dead' meme.
In California we have the three strikes law. One more strike for the blogosphere and it is lights out. Be careful what you accuse blogs of killing. Blogs are disrupting all of these things but killing is a little harsh. Email is still being sent, branding is alive and well, and PR practitioners are continuing to do what they do.
With that said, here are my "(fill in the blank) is dead" predictions we'll hear in the blogosphere in 2005.
1. Advertising - Consumers couldn't take it any more.
2. Radio - Podcasters Adam Curry and Eric Rice convicted of 1st degree murder.
3. Internet Explorer - Dead, cause Firefox.
4. Newspapers/Magazines - Double homicide by Blogs.
Blogs improve and disrupt, not kill. Until we have verifiable proof, let's quit accusing blogs of murder and use them to change or enhance. What are your "is dead" predictions for 2005?
